This rare desk or table lamp is called The Tumbler (De Tuimelaar) and was produced by KMD Daalderop in the Netherlands, circa 1935. The striking design in bronzed metal is marked by the elegant bell shaped shade and the curved stem. The shade can be adjusted into different positions, as the counterweight of the metal ball keeps the lamp in balance. The lamp rests on a separate metal ring shaped holder. This innovative design has often been attributed to the influential Dutch modernist designer W.H. Gispen.
