This exceptionally rare pair of swivel lounge chairs was designed by Rito Valla in 1963. This model named ‘Mercury’ was produced by IPE in Bologna for only a limited period of time in the mid 1960s. The design is characterized by the playful, distinguishable round shape of the fully rotating swivel seat and the striking metal frame with stained beechwood legs and brass feet. The technical composition of the chair was highly innovative and bold, modeling the padding of the upholstered seat on a lightweight steel structure. The frame of each chair is marked with the producers stamp: IPE Brevettato. The comfortable armchairs are in excellent condition and have been reupholstered in a red Danish wool fabric. Our upholsterer used the original fabric moulds to carefully create the new zipped covers, respecting and retaining the original characteristics of the design.
